Full Description

A round barrow on 'Whitechurch Down', now East Down (ST 8600) close to Combs Ditch, was opened by William Shipp in 1864. At the centre under a flint cairn a deep circular cist was cut in the natural chalk. It contained a primary cremation together with nine 'rudely chipped arrowheads' in a large bucket urn. Four inhumations, one crouched and three extended, were found above the cairn and a small urn was found just below the surface on the south side of the mound. Possibly Monument No. 25 (ST 80 SE 17B). ,1>

Possibly the barrow on Whatcombe Down (ST 80 SE 15). <2>
