Full Description

Worked flints, flint implements, ?Palaeolithic ovate hand axe, two ?Neolithic picks or hoes, three Romano-British handled bead rim beakers, sherd of New Forest ware beaker, shale lathe cores, a wrought iron ?butt of Miss Pike of East Down House, Winterborne Whitechurch in 1952. DCM 1952.1. Clearly the finds were not derived from a single source, but East Down House lies close to Comb's (ST 80 SE 48) a possible context for Roman finds in the area. <1>

No information was obtained during field investigation. Miss Pike is deceased and East Down House at ST 863008 is under new ownership. (Some of the Romano-British pottery from this site might be associated with site ST 80 SE 33 Charlton Down). <2>
