Full Description

(Centred ST 870050) Field Systems. Taken from air photographs in 1949. <1>

Centred ST 870050. A very poorly defined field system on arable ground, though at the time of investigation largely under grass. The system is best seen on air photographs and is of Iron Age/Romano British type ST 861058. In this area there are some pronounced E-W, grass covered lynchets. These are approximately parallel, but rather widely spaced, and appear to be neither straight nor regular enough to be Medieval. They may represent Medieval or later utilization of the Iron Age/Romano-British system. <2>

Traces of 'Celtic' fields vaguely referred to in text but shown on plan. <3>
