Summary

Brewery founded in 1777 by Charles Hall who was later succeeded by his son Robert. In 1848 Robert formed a partnership with George Edward Woodhouse and traded as Hall and Woodhouse and in 1875 the company had adopted the badger as its trademark. During the late 19th century the company acquired many breweries including Blandford St Mary in 1883 (Monument HOB UID 1514390). Both breweries continued to be operated by Hall and Woodhouse, however, in 1900 the Ansty Brewery closed and the Blandford Brewery was destroyed by fire and moved to its current site (Monument HOB UID 11514161). The brewery buildings are extant, all were built in about 1777 and include the malthouse and remains of a water powered building. The malthouse was converted into the village hall in 1948, the others are used as stores and housing.
