Full Description
The earthwork remains of an area of embanked terraced Iron Age/Roman fields located to the south-west, adjacent to the earthwork remains of a probable Iron Age Roman settlement (NRHE 202131). These remains are visible centred at ST 7392 0169 on aerial photographs taken in 2015 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording programme. <1>
The bank and ditched field boundaries are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery (Environment Agency 2021 (3)) and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project; they are part of a much wider system of fields which extend to the south east. The long linear defining the south-east edge of this section of the prehistoric field system has been fossilised into the modern system of fields.
