Summary

: overarching record for unlocated burials from barrows in the neighbourhood of East Lulworth, excavated by Milner in 1790. These are covered by Grinsell's (1959) East Lulworth barrows e-j. Warne (1866) describes the contents of 4-5 of these barrows (equivalent to Grinsell's East Lulworth barrows 5e-i) as 'nearly the same' as that described for Grinsell's East Lulworth barrow 5a that probably excavated at the same time (SID72988)). A MBA date is therfore assigned to all these burials. The only difference between these burials was that some of the urns were inverted, some upright. Only four burials from barrows similar to the East Lulworth 5a burial (of the 4-5 potentially excavated) are recorded here (East Lulworth barrows 5e-h; the MNI). Two are assigned upright urned cremation burials; two inverted. The burials from Grinsell's East Lulworth barrow 5j (Warne's barrow 12) are different in character. There were five inhumation burials with urns. One of the latter had zig-zag decoration; another was a small cup placed under the head and capped with a limpet shell.Overall, very poor contextual detail so only basic details are entered. The grid ref. is the SW corner of the OS grid square within which these barrows were probably located.
