Summary

A telegraph station built in 1806 in the north-east corner of Lambert's Castle hillfort, and part of a chain of similar stations between Plymouth and the Admiralty. The site is overgrown making it difficult to verify any surface features, but deposits relating to the building will survive below ground.

Full Description

A station on the Admiralty Shutter Telegraph system to Plymouth, constructed 1806, was formerly situated on Lambert's Castle at a height of 842 feet. Adjoining stations were Toller Down to the east and Dalwood Common to the west. The Shutter Telegraph ceased operation in September 1814. <1>
