Summary

A former rectory, now a private dwelling. The main part of the building was built around 1500, and the roof is of arch-braced collar construction. Surviving original features of the interior are reported to include plank-and-muntin partitions, ceiling beams and fireplaces, and roof timbers. There are 18th- and 19th-century additions, and the 19th-century wing, built of stone, is now a separate dwelling.

(SY 36389552) Rectory (NAT) <1>

The Rectory, a two-storey, flint and rubble building with tile roof. The main block built about 1500, has 18th and 19th century additions. There is a collar-braced roof with moulded ceiling beams and partitions and a good 18th century staircase. <2> <3>

‘(4) RECTORY, on the W. side of the road 820 yards W.S.W. of the parish church, is of two storeys; the walls are of flint rubble and the roofs are tiled. The main block was built c. 1500 but was remodelled in the 18th century and has modern additions on the S. and W. Inside the building, the Dining Room has an original timbered ceiling with moulded beams forming sixteen panels. There is also an original muntin and plank partition. The staircase dates from the 18th century. The roof retains two original trusses of collar-beam type with curved braces under the collars.’
