Summary

A concentration of sub-circular ditched and scarped features are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph on Ayles's Hill ottom, Sydling St Nicholas. Two of the features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map. The remainder may also be former chalk pits, probably post medieval in date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

A concentration of four sub-circular ditched and scarped features are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph at Ayles's Hill Bottom, Sydling St Nicholas (1). Two of the features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The remainder may also be former chalk pits, probably post medieval in date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The features are still visible as earthworks and cropmarks on Google Earth imagery.
