A post medieval gravel pit is recorded on the OS 1st Edition map on Middle Hill, Cattistock. The features is visible as a shallow irregular earthwork on aerial photographs, where it extends susbstantially beyond the area recorded c1880. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

A post medieval gravel pit is recorded on the OS 1st Edition map on Middle Hill, Cattistock (1). The features is visible as a shallow irregular earthwork on aerial photographs, where it extends susbstantially beyond the area recorded c1880 to approximately 162m by 112m (2, 3). Within the area of extraction are two low irregular banked linears that may be the result of extraction but may alternatively be older features associated with a prehistoric field system (MDO672) at this location.

The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
