Summary

Banked linear features are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph on Cross Hill, Sydling St Nicholas. The features contain an area of ridged cultivation that may be medieval ridge and furrow. A sub-rectangular enclosure abuts the south side of one of the banks; this may be a later features, possibly a post medieval pound (MDO2604). The features may be medieval lynchets or field boundaries. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Banked linear features are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph on Cross Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features contain an area of ridged cultivation that may be medieval ridge and furrow. A sub-rectangular enclosure abuts the south side of one of the banks; this may be a later features, possibly a post medieval pound (MDO2604). The features may be medieval lynchets or field boundaries. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The lynchets are still visible on 2020 Google Earth imagery (2).
