Summary

Three sub-circular ditched features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the east of Ayles's Hill, Sydling St Nicholas. The features may be post medieval extractive pits. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Three sub-circular ditched features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the east of Ayles's Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features comprise a row of three pits between 18m and 20m across, positioned against a historic field boundary to the north, with one of the pits abutting a historic field boundary to the east. They may be post medieval extractive pits and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The features are no longer visible on Google Earth imagery.
