Full Description

Banked cuvilinear features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs in fields to the southwest of Up Sydling, Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features comprise five sections of curvilinear bank between 48m and 88m long, running broadly parallel to each other on an east-west axis, with a further 111m section of broad curvilinear bank to the northeast on a southeast-northwest axis. The features appear to underlie areas of possible post medieval ridge and furrow (MDO43110) and are on the same alignment as a prehistoric field system (MDO2620; NRHE Hob UID 199225) to the east. They may be field boundaries of possible prehistoric orgin, although a later, perhaps medieval, date is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The features are no longer visible on Google Earth imagery.
