Full Description

Broad linear banked features are visible as earthworks on current Lidar imagery to the north of Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features comprise of sections of linear bank on a predominantly north -south alignment. This corresponds with the historic field pattern in this area and two of the features are marked by historic field boundaries recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features may also be historic field boundaries -possibly of medieval date - they are of similar form and alignment to probable medieval field boundaries to the east, potentially associated with Elston deserted medieval settlement (MDO43098; NRHE Hob UID 199261). They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
