Full Description
Two linear banked features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the northeast of Frome Park Coppice, Frome St Quintin (1-3). The features are approximately 120m in length and broadly parallel with a slight funnel shape at their southwest end, which corresponds with a small break in the boundary bank containing Frome Park Coppice. The bank was formerly a section of the park pale enclosing a medieval deer park (MDO1192). The northeast end ends at Long Ash Lane, opposite the entrance to a trackway recorded as a medieval drove road (MDO1200). The features may be a a predecessor to, or a continuation of, the drove road, although it is not known if, or in what way, it may be associated with the former deer park. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The features are still visible as cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery.
