Full Description

Banked and ditched curvilinearfeatures are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs on Row Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features comprise a series of broadly parallel banks and ditches on a short west facing slope and a longer broader banked curvilinear feature visible as a cropmark on 2020 Google Earth imagery (2). The features may be medieval lynchets , although an older origin for some of the features is also possible, given the proximity to neighbouring Iron Age field systems (e.g. MDO2624; 2623).
The features are still largely visible as earthworks and cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery, with some under partially under vegetation. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
