Full Description
Banked curvilinear features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Bazon Hill, Up Cerne (1-3). The features comprise sections of narrow curvilinear banks on a SW-NE axis. This is broadly on the same alignment as the adjacent historic field pattern, which suggests a possible medieval origin.
The features are also closely adjacent to two Iron Age field systems to the south and northeast (MDO2818; 2812) and it is possible that they are outliers to these and of prehistoric origin. Alternatively, however, they may be field boundaries and/or lynchets of possible medieval date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
Some of the features are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on 2002 Google Earth imagery (3).
