Summary

A large irregular sub-circular ditched and scarped feature is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the north of Poor Lot, Batcombe. The feature is recorded as an old quarry on the OS 1st Edition map, probably of post medieval date. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

A large irregular sub-circular ditched and scarped feature is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the north of Poor Lot, Batcombe (1). The feature is situated on the north side of a trackway and measures approximately 100m long by up to 50m wide. It is recorded as an old quarry on the OS 1st Edition map (2), probably of post medieval date. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The feature is still visible on current Google Earth imagery.
