Summary

Multiple sub-circular pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs to the west of Hill Barn, Cattistock. The features are considered likely to be post medieval chalk and/or extractive pits. One of the features is recorded as an old quarry on the OS 1st Edition map. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Multiple sub-circular pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs to the west of Hill Barn, Cattistock (1-3). The features are considered likely to be post medieval chalk and/or extractive pits. One of the features is recorded as an old quarry on the OS 1st Edition map (4). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The majority of features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery.
