Full Description
Multiple sub-circular pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs across the area of Plain Bottom, Maiden Newton (1-4). The features are considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits. Two of the larger features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map (5). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery.
