Monument record MDO42933 - Iron Age/Romano-British field system, Shearplace Hill, Sydling St Nicholas

Linear banks and ditches of an Iron Age/ Romano-British field system are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on Shearplace Hill, Sydling St Nicholas. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Linear banks and ditches of an Iron Age/ Romano-British field system are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on Shearplace Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1-6). The field system is closely associated with a Middle to Late Bronze Age settlement enclosure (MDO42932) which may have been re-used during the Iron Age/Romano-British period (NRHE453117). Two trackways or hollow ways associated with the enclosure may be later features and contemporary with the field system in this area.

The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Some of the features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery.
