Monument record MDO42924 - Post medieval chalk pits, Magiston Hill, Godmanstone

Multiple sub-circular pits and scarps are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery on the east side of Magiston Hill, Godmanstone. Some of the larger features are recorded as chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map. The remaining features are also considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Some of the larger features are recorded as chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map (5). The remaining features are also considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Many of the features are still visible as cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery.
