Summary

A low sub-circular banked mound is visible as an earthwork on current Lidar imagery on the east sidew of Magiston Hill, Godmanstone. The feature is recorded as a Bronze Age bowl barrow (NRHE Hob UID 453139) and is a Scheduled Monument (List Entry 1002451). It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

(SY 64089699) Tumulus (NR). (1)

A barrow situated on the west edge of Godmanstone parish 1000 yds south west of (SY 69 NW 28) is 33ft in diameter but ploughed almost level; identifiable as a circular area of flints (2). Listed by Grinsell as a bowl barrow "18 paces diameter and 2ft high" in 1939. (2,3)

Authy 2 description is incorrect. The barrow, of bowl-type is well defined and measures 21.0m diameter by 0.8m high with a heavy scatter of flint. Under plough with no trace of ditch. (4)

Reduced by ploughing to a flinty mound 15.0m in diameter and 0.4m high. (GP).
