A Second World War Type 23 pillbox is visible as an L-shaped structure on 1940s aerial photographs on the western railway embankment at Maiden Newton. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Type 23 pillbox, constructed of brick walls with concrete roof [access to site is via the rear gardens of houses in Frome View].Behind houses and street 'Frome View', on railway embankment, nr. Maiden Newton. The structure was recorded in good condition in 1997. <1-3>

A Second World War Type 23 pillbox is visible as an L-shaped structure on 1940s aerial photographs <4> on the western railway embankment at Maiden Newton (1). The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. The pillbox is under trees and not visible on current Google Earth imagery.
