Summary

Early 20th century watercress beds are visible as earthworks and structures on 1940s aerial photographs along the length of Sydling Water to the south of Sydling St Nicholas. The features are not recorded on the OS 1st Edition map but may still have been in use in 1947. They are recorded as disused on the current OS mastermap. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Early 20th century watercress beds are visible as earthworks and structures on 1940s aerial photographs along the length of Sydling Water to the south of Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features are not recorded on the OS 1st Edition map but may still have been in use in 1947. They are recorded as disused on the current OS mastermap. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The beds are largely under vegetation and no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
