Summary

A sub circular banked mound is visible as an earthwork and cropmark on aerial photographs on Hog Cliff Hill, Maiden Newton. The feature is recorded as a tumulus on the OS 1st Edition map and is probably a Bronze Age bowl barrow. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. The barrow is a Scheduled Monument (1003228).

Full Description

SY 62199673. A bowl barrow, 60ft diameter by 2.5ft high situated on Hog Cliff Hill. Listed by Grinsell as a "Cairn, or stone heap". (2,3)

A grass-covered bowl barrow, 17.0m diameter by 0.8m high. No trace of ditch or excavation. (4)

An oval grass covered flinty bowl barrow at SX 62179676 which measures 16.5m by 11.2m and 0.5m high. (See GP). Revised at 1:2500 on MSD. (5)
