Full Description
A series of sub-circular pits and scarps are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Hog Cliff Hill, Maiden Newton (1, 2, 3). The features are considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits - some of the features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS 1st Edition map (4). The features were all digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. Many are still visible as earthworks and cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery.
