Full Description

Type 22 pillbox, of standard brick and concrete construction. Roof has a bevelled edge to allow water to run off the structure [?]. End brick elevations are exposed. Protected entrance 28ins wide into hallway and then through inner entrance, 27ins x 43ins. Entrance roof slopes 10ins - 12ins. Pistol port, 5.5ins x 8ins outside, 11ins x 13ins inside. Embrasures 15ins x 8ins outside, 28ins x 15ins inside, with concrete lintel. Dimensions, internal walls 70ins wide, anti-ricochet wall 39ins x 46ins x 9.5ins. Concrete roof laid in 7ins - 8ins bands. Internal height 78ins. Remains of wooden shelf on N wall.In the middle of the farmyard at Newton Farm, Dorchester Road, Maiden Newton. <1-3>

1. A type 22 pillbox located in the middle of the farmyard at Newton Farm.
2. Standard brick and concrete construction. However, roof has a bevelled edge to allow water to runoff the structure. End brick elevations are exposed.
3. Protected entrance - 27"x43". Entrance roof slopes 10"-12". Pistol port for protection - 5.5"x8" outside, 11"x 13" inside.
4. Loopholes 15"x8" outside, 28"x15" inside with concrete lentil.
5. Dimensions: Internal walls - 70" wide, anti-ricochet wall - 39"x46"x9.5". Concrete roof laid in 7"-8" bands. Internal height - 78". Remains of wooden shelf on northern wall.
