Monument record MDO42813 - Post medieval water meadow, Hyde Farm, Maiden Newton, Frampton

The remains of a possible post medieval water meadow is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery to the south and southwest of Hyde Farm, Frampton and Maiden Newton. The earthworks incorporate features identified as a possible deserted medieval settlement in MDO21672. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The remains of a possible post medieval water meadow is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery to the south and southwest of Hyde Farm, Frampton and Maiden Newton (1, 2, 3).

The features comprise a series of linear ditched drainage channels linked to historic drainage channels and sluices recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (4). The character of the features is typical of a post medieval catchworks or bedworks water meadow.

The earthworks incorporate features previously identified as a possible deserted medieval settlement in MDO21672.

The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
