Summary

Linear banks, ditches and scarps are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery on the south side of Dorchester Road at Notton, Maiden Newton. The features may be those of historic field boundaries and trackways or alternatively the remains of a shrunken or deserted medieval village. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Linear banks, ditches and scarps are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery on the south side of Dorchester Road at Notton, Maiden Newton (1, 2). The features form a series of small sub-rectilinear platforms and hollow ways that may be associated with historic field boundaries and trackways or alternatively the remains of a possible shrunken or deserted medieval village. Many of the features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
