Full Description

A possible post medieval gravel pit is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery at Notton, Maiden Newton (1, 2). The feature comprises a semi-circular scarp on the southern bank of the River Frome. A pond to the east and a possible channel leading west from this to link into the south side of the scarped feature are visible on current Lidar imagery, which may indicate an alternative natural origin (2).
