Full Description
Banked and ditched linear features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs in a field to the north of Notton Farm, Maiden Newton (1). The features comprises a linear ditch with a bank on its northwest side and a second possible bank on its southeast side. The feature extends southwest from the corner of the field to the north on the same alignment as the eastern boundary of that field and may continue northwards as an unbanked ditch along the eastern edge of that boundary. Short additional ditched linears extend off the main feature at its southwest end and close to its central point.
The feature may be a historic field boundary and/or trackway (hollow way?) of medieval to post medieval date. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The feature is no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery (2).
