Full Description

A Second World War radio telegraphy station on Bulbarrow Hill, Woolland, is visible as structures and earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (RAF 1945; RAF 1947). The station comprises two tethered radio masts associated with a group of small rectangular buildings, possibly transmitter/reciever buildings, contained within barbed wire enclosures set within a wider series of barbed wire enclosures where various other buildings and structures are located. A concentration of buildings are present on the southeast side of the site, which may be operational buildings associated with the site. On the southeast side of the road a further group of buildings, which includes Nissan huts, structures and water tanks, are presumed to be domestic quarters, such as accommodation blocks, mess huts and ablution blocks.

Some of the buildings and one of the telegraph masts still survive and are possibly still in some form of use. Some of the buildings on the southeast side of the road also survive and are in some form of re-use. The features were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
