Full Description

Mappowder Court was built on the site of a mansion that belonged to the Coker family, whose estate was sold in 1745 and the mansion taken down. The present building incorporates 17th century features, but no part of the Coker mansion can be positively identified. <2> <3>

'Mappowder Court' (name confirmed) known as 'Place Farm' until about 1950, when the house was restored to its now fine condition by the present owner. It is a substantial L-shaped building of two-storeys with attics, ashlar plinth, rubble walls (East front stucco-faced), stone mullion windows with drip-moulds; and tiled roof. An exact date for the present structure has not been established; probably late 17th/early 18th century. <5>
