Summary

A late 15th century parish church altered and restored in 1868. Nave, south aisle, west tower and south porch are late 15th century, whilst the chancel and restoration were conducted in 1868 by Slater and Carpenter. A 14th century window and a 12th century font suggest the existence of an earlier church.

(ST 73530599) St Peter & St Paul's Church <1>

Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Mappowder has walls of squared and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings of limestone. The nave, south aisle, west tower and south porch are of the late 15th century with 19th century restorations; the chancel was rebuilt in 1868. An earlier church is indicated by some 12th century head-corbels, a font of the same period and a reset 14th century window. Grade B. The font is a late C12th table-top type with central shaft and four corner shafts. Grade I. <2-3>
