Full Description

Recent aerial photography reveals the cropmarks of a probable Prehistoric or Roman round barrow cemetery, comprising at least six round barrows: three ring ditches visible as an east-west line at ST 971 057 and a second line of three at ST 973 055-ST 973 056. Also visible, by this second line, is a small U-shaped curvilinear enclosure, at ST 972 056. <1>

Plough-levelled Bronze Age round barrow noted as a circular, annular cropmark with an estimated diameter of 21 metres noted on aerial photographs dated 2017 and 2018. No mound material or internal features could be discerned. The monument forms part of a localised group of at least four barrows, possibly comprising two pairs. <2-3>

The barrow is visible as a sub-circular ring-ditch cropmark approximately 22m in diameter on a 2019 aerial photograph and was digitally plotted using this source during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project <4>. The barrow is one of a group of four in a broadly southwest to northeast alignment, which may form two pairs.
