Monument record MDO42327 - Historic field boundaries and strip lynchets, Wynford Eagle

A large number of removed field boundaries and strip lynchets are visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery on the southeast facing slopes to the north of Higher Wynford Farm, Wynford Eagle. They were digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project and considered to be of medieval date. They fit in with the field system marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map which may fossilise a medieval system.

SY577959. Three groups of strip lynchets occur on South-East facing slopes to the West of Wynford Eagle: SY579964 - 2 flights each with fine terraces 220 yards long. SY575959 - 3 lynchets up to 330 yards long. SY574957 - Slight remains over Celtic fields. <1>
