Monument record MDO42319 - Iron Age or Roman field system, Maiden Newton

The fragmentary remains of an extensive Iron Age/Romano-British field system are visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery on the south side of Chammen's Hill, Maiden Newton. The features were digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project.

FIELD SYSTEMS: Taken from Jany - March 1949 by: R J C Atkinson. <1>

Centred at SY 593957. An IA/RB field system, with pronounced lynchets and field banks on the valley slopes, which are still under pasture. In the N.W of the area the irregular fields are still visible, though ploughing has spread and reduced the field banks. See AP.CPE/UK/2475/3175. <2>
