Summary

The remains of an extensive system of medieval strip lynchets is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery on the east facing slopes of Chammen's Hill, Cruxton Manor Farm, Maiden Newton. The features were digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project.

[Centred at SY 59419634] Lynchets on a S.E. slope 1/4 mile S.W of West Cruxton Farm. Form two terraces. <1>

Centred at SY 59879638. Three lynchets of Md type, average 2.5m high, forming wide terraces. Grass covered. Centred at SY 598967. A. SY 59879666. Pronounced Md terraced cultivation with lynchets 1.0m average height. B. SY 59909685 Low banks & lynchets extending downhill at an angle with the contours. <2>

Centred at SY 59839631. An area with pronounced Md. Strip lynchets, under grass. <3>

The remains of an extensive system of medieval strip lynchets is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery on the east facing slopes of Chammen's Hill, Cruxton Manor Farm, Maiden Newton <4>. The features cover an area over 22 hectares and were digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project.
