Full Description

[ST 90330494] There is a large barrow in the pleasure grounds of Langton House. <1>

A very doubtful barrow composed of alluvial soil, and situated upon the flood plain of the R.STOUR. The mound is 26.0 m. diam, 2.7 m. high; and has a flat top 5.0m. Diameter with evidence of a
stone building or ornamentation, to judge by the stone slabs and flints. The mound is probably the result of landscape gardening - the area being known as 'the Pleasure Ground.' <2>

Field investigation by the RCHME in 1954 <2> showed the mound to be 26m in diameter, 2.7m high with a flat top 5m across and evidence of a possible stone structure. It is considered to be an landscape garden feature and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project.
