Summary

A toll house built in 1843 by the Puddletown and Wimborne Turnpike Trust (1841-78). When the Trust failed in 1878 the toll house was bought by the owner of Athelhampton and extended for use as a lodge. It was occupied by gardeners and used for military purposes during World War Two. It later became derelict but has been restored.

Full Description

The Wimborne-Puddletown Turnpike Trust operated from 1841 to 1878. The toll-house was bought by the owners of Athelhampton Hall in 1878 and then used as a Lodge. It is still extent and was recorded by measured survey. <1>
