Full Description

A sand pit shown on the 1st epoch 1 to 25 inch scale Ordnance Survey map.

The feature is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs [2]. The feature comprises an irregular depression up to 70m by 42m, a larger area than that shown on the OS 1st Edition map [1]. A further two smaller sub-circular pits are also visible to the south of this on a 1945 aerial photograph [3]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
