Please read our .

Summary

A Saxon kiln excavated in advance of the building of a new Tesco store, and thought to date to the early to mid 9th century. The kiln consisted of a roughly circular chamber with two flues, and the remains of the last firing were still inside, suggesting that this firing had failed. The vessels were of a Crockerton type ware; all were rounded jars, except one which had a strap handle.
