Monument record MDO41796 - Undated field boundary, Kingston Lacy, Pamphill

Please read our .

Summary

A banked linear feature to the south of Kingston Lacy Park is visible on current Lidar imagery. The feature is considered likely to be a field boundary although its date is uncertain. There is a possible relationship with the pattern of historic enclosure at this location, although this is not certain and it is possible the feature is pre-medieval, perhaps late prehistoric, in origin. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A banked linear feature to the south of Kingston Lacy Park is visible on current Lidar imagery (1).

The featureis broad and slightly curvilinear in form with a longer central section extending E-W for approximately 455m and two shorter arms at either end extending S and SW. The longer central section broadly mirrors part of a historic field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, although the relationship, if any, with the pattern of historic enclosure at this location is not certain. The feature is considered likely to be a field boundary, possibly historic in date but perhaps pre-medieval, possibly late prehistoric in origin.

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
