Full Description
A possible Bronze Age barrow to the northwest of Barford Farm is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a central sub-circular mound approximately 18.6m in diameter. The mound is enclosed within a partial outer ditch approximately 1m wide; the southwest side of the ditch is not visible (1).
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. A feature, which may be the same as this one, is visible as an earthwork in 2002. Also visible in 2002 are a number of adjacent features which appear are similar in character but are considered more likely to be agricultural in origin, possibly areas of bare earth around feed or water troughs (2). It is possible this feature is also agricultural in origin, although its form as a cropmark in a 1988 aerial photograph suggests a more likely archaeological nature.
The feature was digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
