Monument record MDO41735 - Undated field system, Ferndown

An extensive field system of uncertain date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 to either side of the now disused Southampton and Dorchester railway, Ferndown. The field system covers an area of over 200 hectares and is partially marked on the OS 1st edition map as well as the modern mapping. The field system has curvilinear and rectilinear elements and is of uncertain date, from its morphology it appears to be pre-parlimentary and possibly of medieval or earlier prehistoric origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
