Summary

An extensive field system of uncertain date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 on rough-ground to the south of Hilltop Nurserys, Wimborne Road West, Ferndown. The banked field boundaries cover an area of 600m by 480m and are partially marked on the OS 1st edition map as well as the modern mapping. The field system has curvilinear and rectilinear elements and is of uncertain date. It appears to be pre-parlimentary and possible of medieval or earlier prehistoric origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

An extensive field system of uncertain date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 on rough-ground to the south of Hilltop Nurserys, Wimborne Road West, Ferndown (1). The banked field boundaries cover an area of 600m by 480m and are partially marked on the OS 1st edition map (2) as well as the modern mapping. The field system has curvilinear and rectilinear elements and is of uncertain date. It appears to be pre-parlimentary and possible of medieval or earlier prehistoric origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP (3).
