Full Description

Linear ditched features to the southeast of New Barn Farm are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (1-2).

The features form a partial three-sided sub-rectangular enclosure 37m by 32m; the east side is not visible but the enclosure directly abuts the west side of a late prehistoric trackway (MDO41686). It is also situated around 50m south of a probable Iron Age to Romano-British settlement (MDO41687) . It is probable that the enclosure is broadly contemporary with these features, most likely Iron Age or Romano-British in date

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A linear ditch is visible as a crop mark crossing two arable fields SE of New Barn Farm on aerial photograph NMR ST9501/1. It may be a late Bronze Age linear boundary similar to 112,285. The linear 112,497 may be a continuation of this site to the north. It is aligned roughly north-south but snakes backwards and forwards ignoring the modern field boundaries. It crosses the parallel linear ditches 112,484 and touches the north side of enclosure 112,601 and appears to stop here but may resume a northerly course after a 70m break where it is traceable for 200m. To the west and south of 112,601 it is visible for approximately 500m. No visible trace of the site was found on the ground.
