Summary

Linear ditched features to the southeast of New Barn Farm are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The features are considered to be sections of a late prehistoric trackway. The trackway is contiguous to a probable settlement of late prehistoric or Romano-British date, also visible as cropmarks. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

ST 959011, to N then NNE. Parallel ditches 6m apart, probable track, length 900m, visible on air photographs. Settlement [ST 90 SE 92] is possibly contiguous. It is assumed that discontinuous sections were once linked. <1>

Linear ditched features to the southeast of New Barn Farm are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs <2-5>.

The features comprise numerous sections of narrow curvilinear ditch that form double and sometimes triple parallel rows that extend for a distance of around 1.5km on a broadly SSW to NNE alignment on both sides of Park Lane.

The features are considered to be sections of a late prehistoric trackway. The trackway is possibly contiguous with a probable settlement of late prehistoric or Romano-British date (MDO41687). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
