Full Description
An area of post medieval extraction on open ground at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1-2).
The features comprise areas of shallow surface extraction, one bounded on its west and south sides by scarped and banked edges. Additionally, there is an area of small pits and scrapes, also probably features of post medieval extractive origin. The extraction extends over an area around 120m by 92m. At its west end the area of extraction may encroach onto earthworks associated with the Roman Road from Badbury Rings to Pool (MDO5461).
The site is under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible, presumed levelled. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
